Let’s call this a “just saying” post. I saw La La Land last week. It was a musical. It was colorful and big. These are all good qualities. As a posthumous tribute to Debbie Reynolds, the people involved in La La Land said that they had been inspired by Singing in the Rain. But all that color, those big wide shots, dancing  in the air via special effects and the talented but not breathtaking singing and dancing by Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling. It’s not the same as an MGM musical of the 50’s, not Throwback Thursday. The shininess is Bollywood as old as a newly minted coin.
