Just finished a three day run in The Vagina Monologues. The author, Eve Ensler, licenses productions to raise money for organizations that fight violence against women.
You probably already know about this show which was a “cultural touchstone” of the 90’s and 00’s. The show consists of a series of monologues by women about happy, sad, angry and wistful vaginas. The show celebrates vaginas to raise them to the same status as the penis.
Does it work in the 10’s? There’s some good rowdy humor and a harrowing story about wartime rape. But we’re now post vajayjay. So, the show seems a bit quaint-my quaint vagina?
