Yes, the DC metro is clean and shiny. Yes, the dots flashing to signal an incoming train are cool. And yes I love the Color Kitten coding for the different branches. Looks like they are even developing a gray line.
Except that if you use a paper farecard, you will be charged an extra $1.00 for every ride you take on the Metro. No exceptions for refilling the paper farecard as in NYC. And what visitor to a City is going to invest in a SmartTrip pass. That is, as the Metro attendant said, “highway [or maybe subway] robbery.”
