And some books are plain crazy. Like Nightwood and Infinite Jest and this one. But I mean crazy in a good way, original and wild, prose with poetic gale force and with a plot that leaves the reader holding all the loose ends in their hands or saying what just hit me over the head or saying “what’s this book about?” “Oh, it’s about a sheep that gets in people’s brains. The mystery is investigated by someone who has/had a girlfriend with very special ears.” Excessive alcohol or drugs is usually involved.
This is not the first time I’ve read a Murakami book but the first time I fully experienced one in all its strangeness. This guy could definitely be a great living writer. Time to circle back and reread.
