If I were looking for a GLW [great living writer] of children’s books, J.K. Rowling would have to be on the list. The way she built her life is admirable. But after the first Harry Potter book which was magical in all ways, I found the rest of the Harry Potter series to be somewhat of a slog. [Come on-Confess-didn’t you].
The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins, which I just finished rereading [first volume] and reading [volumes two and three], has the edge for me over Harry Potter. Three books is just the right length to create and resolve the plot and the love triangle with suspense and without boredom. The heroine is resourceful but not nice which is what allows her to survive. And there is little descriptive writing that does not advance the action. The Hunger Games has style.
