George Saunders has the NYT and MacArthur Genius grant buzz. But based on Tenth of December, he’s not on my GLW[great living writer] short list. His voice is the ironic loser; this sameness of tone makes the stories monotonous. I enjoyed the mysterious creepiness of his characters’ jobs [amazing the strange arcane things our culture requires some of us to do] and the very short story “Sticks.”
